Sign A Rama Toronto was chosen to produce signs for Rothman Benson and Hedges’ new IQOS store
Rothmans Benson and Hedges’ (RBH) parent company, Philip Morris International (PMI), announced from its Swiss headquarters that its new Reduced-Risk Product (RRP), called iQOS, a rechargeable electronic device that heats tubes of tobacco, will be introduced for the first time in Canada in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Calgary later this year.
The opportunity:
Sign A Rama Toronto, with over 3 decades’ experience in the signage and display industries, was carefully chosen to produce their signage and wall murals. We were so proud to be a part of this great venture with RBH and to collaborate with their marketing and design teams to help launch their retail outlets. Their first store is located at 399 Queen Street West.

The challenge:
Our signage consulting team, headed by Wally Tomaszek, had several meetings with the design and marketing team of RBH to take many briefs. They wanted illuminated storefront signs which would make the new retail outlet totally visible at night and stand out among its neighboring stores. The next challenge was to create interior signs and displays, with their design elements of light blues and greens in frosted plexiglass squares that would float on all interior walls to give a light, refreshing, airy look and feel.

Our Solution:
For the outdoor storefront sign, we chose halo channel letters to pin mounted on a wood grain panel finish to give the desired look of warmth and contrast. The letters are white and have highlighted blue edges in their own brand colors. They are lit from inside giving a beautiful halo effect. The whole sign is bathed in a soft, even glow at night giving a very striking and sophisticated look to reflect a superior new brand and product.
For the interior lobby signs and displays, it was a challenge to produce the desired effect as required by the RBH team. Many test samples and prototypes were produced to attain the desired effect. Ultimately, an intricate system of cables and standoffs was used to float the pieces of plexiglass off the walls and window frames. All the plexiglass squares were placed on top of individual cut-out letters of the major cities that have other iQOS locations. The other walls were given similar treatments going over key attribute words of the product. All displays surrounded the product demonstration area to create the desired warm effect. The RBH team loved the outcome.
Sign A Rama laid down the lettering and then all plexiglass display squares.
In the end, it was a brilliant plan carried out to perfection by our team to create the desired look for RBH’s marketing and design team. We take great pride in carrying out our work with the utmost professionalism and are happy that the signs and murals were well-liked by all.
