How to create a great restaurant signage while complying with local body restrictions- Cacao 70 case study
The Opportunity
When marketers at Cacao 70 entered the Ontario market they chose Sign A Rama to design and produce their restaurant signage. They felt our successful history with restaurateurs would help them position themselves where they wanted to be with confidence and creativity.
The Challenge
The challenge was to produce creative signage in the historic Distillery District where the Heritage Board has a crucial say in how the signs should look and still make them commercially effective for the brand and the restaurant.
Sign A Rama’s Solution
We presented several sketches that were narrowed down to a few. Finally, the one that was accepted is shown below
Once the design was accepted, it still had to pass the signage permit criteria at the City of Toronto for a sign permit. Sign A Rama with the Heritage board’s approval was successful in obtaining the sign permit for Cacao70.

To add some further complications the City of Toronto asked for an engineered stamp to ensure that the sign would not fail or fall off the building, considering it was hanging from railings. We successfully managed to design and engineer the sign so that it would pass this criterion as well.
Sign A Rama installs most of our own signs and we are Contractor Checked Certified which means our staff are safety trained and follow safe practices during the course of installation. In most cases there is a manager and or safety person acting as a safety officer to ensure public safety and employee safety. All our work is insured and WSIB covered. We are proud to report that we have never had a mishap or an accident during the course of an installation and have never reported a WSIB claim.
