So, when a new client and passionate restaurateur, Leela Indian Food Bar, approached us with a vision to launch a vibrant new brand into Toronto's competitive food scene, we were thrilled to help cook up the perfect look for Leela Indian Food Bar.

The Vision & The Challenge

Leela is not your average Indian restaurant. It’s an experience. With a menu that is as flavourful and exciting as its atmosphere, Leela aims to offer a fun, modern take on classic Indian cuisine. The vision for Leela was clear: the storefront had to mirror the experience within. The client wanted a look that was bold, colourful, and fun—a direct reflection of the delicious and playful atmosphere of the restaurant. The challenge, however, was twofold.

First, how do you translate a "fun yet delicious atmosphere" into a physical sign? The design needed to avoid generic restaurant signage and capture Leela's unique personality. It had to be as Instagrammable as it was informative.

Second, the solution needed to be effective and consistent for two different locations. In a city like Toronto, where every street has its own character and a thousand lights compete for attention, Leela’s signs had to stand out, both during the bright light of day and on a busy Friday night. They needed to be a beacon for food lovers across the city.

The Illuminated Solution

To meet this challenge, we cooked up the perfect solution: custom-shaped illuminated sign boxes.

This approach allowed us to move beyond the standard rectangular sign. Our team worked closely with the Leela team to create a unique, custom shape for the sign box that felt dynamic and modern, perfectly capturing the restaurant's fun-loving spirit. The vibrant, full-colour graphics pop against the background, creating an unmissable burst of energy on the street.

To tackle the day-and-night visibility challenge, illumination was key. By lighting the custom sign boxes from within, the bold colours and distinctive shape are just as impactful after sunset, casting a warm, inviting glow that draws in passersby. This ensures that Leela’s brand presence never fades, looking fun and delicious 24/7.

The result is a cohesive and powerful brand presence for Leela across both their East and West end locations. The custom illuminated signs are more than just markers; they are a declaration of the vibrant flavour and fun atmosphere that await inside.
